2D Battle royale · Review

ZombsRoyale.io

Top-down battle royale with the full formula — drop, loot, shrinking circle, last one standing — squeezed into two-minute rounds.

ZombsRoyale takes the entire battle royale formula — drop from the sky, loot buildings, survive a shrinking circle — and compresses it into a top-down 2D game where a full round lasts two or three minutes. That compression is the whole appeal. All the tension of a last-player-standing match, none of the ten-minute walks across empty fields.

Because you see the map from above, positioning becomes more readable than in a 3D shooter: you can see enemies coming from further away, so fights are more about angles and timing than reaction speed. Loot is colour-coded, weapons are easy to tell apart, and the shrinking zone keeps every match moving.

It's been running for years and it shows in both good and bad ways. The good: solo, duo and squad queues fill instantly at almost any hour, and there's a rotating set of limited-time modes. The less good: the cosmetic shop is front and centre, and the skins are aggressively marketed. Nothing you buy affects gameplay, but you'll be reminded it exists.

What's good

  • Full battle royale in 2–3 minutes
  • Instant matchmaking, any time of day
  • Very easy to learn
  • Works on phones

What's not

  • Cosmetic shop is loud
  • Top-down view won't suit everyone
  • Squad play is chaotic with randoms

Best for

Anyone who likes battle royale but doesn't have twenty minutes for a match.

How to start

Choose Solo, Duo or Squad, press Play, and parachute in. Loot anything on the ground by walking over it.
