Venge.io
Fast, clean, competitive. Four classes with distinct abilities, ranked play, and matches that end before you've had time to get bored.
Venge is the browser shooter that feels least like a browser shooter. Load times are short, hit registration is tight, and the movement has enough weight that you can actually predict where an opponent will be a second from now — which is the whole game at higher levels.
You pick one of a small set of characters, each with a signature weapon and a single ability on a cooldown. The roster is small on purpose: every class has a clear counter, and after a dozen matches you'll know exactly which one is ruining your evening and why. Rounds are short and the ranked ladder is active enough that you'll be matched with people close to your level within a couple of games.
Where it falls down is the learning curve. Venge assumes you already know how a competitive shooter works — there's no gentle mode, and the first evening is mostly getting deleted by people who have played for two years. If you stick with it, the payoff is a genuinely competitive game with real depth. If you want something to relax with, look elsewhere on this list.
